The Al Hirschfeld Foundation Shop Opens
From the Al Hirschfeld Archives in Pennsylvania, we are happy to present the Al Hirschfeld Foundation Shop, where visitors can find examples of his drawing, painting and printmaking, as well as books and other merchandise featuring his remarkable nine decades of artwork. All proceeds from the store directly benefit the non-profit Al Hirschfeld Foundation and its educational mission.

STATEMENT FROM THE AL HIRSCHFELD FOUNDATION
The Al Hirschfeld Foundation (a not-for-profit organization) announced today that it is terminating the September 29, 2000 agreement between Al Hirschfeld and Margo Feiden/The Margo Feiden Galleries because Margo Feiden and The Margo Feiden Galleries have ceased operating in a manner consistent with the terms and spirit of the parties’ agreement. The Al Hirschfeld Foundation was established in 2004 by the will of Al Hirschfeld, who died on January 20, 2003.

Hirschfeld and the Algonquin Continues
If you missed the five-month long celebration of The Hirschfeld Century at the famed Algonquin Hotel you missed something special. To spend time in that historic lobby surrounded by Hirschfeld art from his nine-decade career was something truly unique. Guests of course loved it, and there was a steady stream of off the street traffic as well to take it all in. It was something to see the place where the historic Round Table was, and above it, Hirschfeld’s classic portrait of the Algonquin wits.

Another Way to Get To Carnegie Hall
It takes more than practice to get to Hirschfeld’s Carnegie Hall. In an April 26th sale at Heritage Auctions, Hirschfeld’s original ink on board 1991 drawing, commissioned to celebrate the Hall’s centennial, and featuring more than 20 legendary personalities from Tchaikovsky to the Beatles, sold for a robust $57,500.

Memories of Anne Jackson
Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach were regular visitors to the Hirschfeld Dinners. They usually entertained afterwards by reciting a scene or a poem to everyone’s delight. They were loyal and loving to the great caricaturist who immortalized them in so many of their greatest theatrical hits.

Lynn Surry named New President of Al Hirschfeld Foundation
The Al Hirschfeld Foundation has announced that Lynn Surry has assumed the position of Foundation President. Surry began her association with the artist 30 years ago when she sold and marketed his work for more than 12 years. Hirschfeld and Surry became friends and even went to the theater together. She has been an Al Hirschfeld Foundation board member since 2011. Surry has been an associate of the late, noted Art Historian Dr.

We’re biased it’s true. Many wonderful books have been published in 2015, but we would be lying to you if we didn’t think that The Hirschfeld Century: Portrait of An Artist and His Age was one of the best this year. Turns out, we are not alone.
